OBAMA’S WAY
My favourite
non-fiction writer is Michael Lewis, the author of Moneyball & The Blind
Side, among many other great non-fiction novels. He’s a phenomenally gifted
author with an unparalleled eye for a great story, especially in the area of
economics. He released a book last year called Boomerang about the state of the debt crisis, but this year he
released something a bit different: a feature on Barack Obama on Vanity Fair that was the most compelling
thing I read in 2012.
I read it in a very unusual
place: Red Lobster in Times Square,
New York City and I can remember sitting there, close to the centre of the
busiest city in the world, devouring this article as a lobster pizza sat
untouched at the bar in front of me. Something about Lewis’ writing allows him
to shed light where there previously was none; hundreds of articles have been
written about this President but none with the kind of insight into who he is as
a person that Lewis is able to portray. The link is below, and if you’re at all
interested in Barack Obama, the role of the presidency or the American
political system, I completely recommend it.
